HASTY,

LYNDA WILSON RAMEY, 89

Gainesville - Lynda Wilson Ramey Hasty, 89, of Gainesville, Fla., died Nov. 14, 2013, at the home of her daughter after a brief illness. Born Lynda Elizabeth Wilson on Nov. 27, 1923, in Covington, Ga., she was the daughter of Joseph O. Wilson and Beulah Wheeler Wilson.

After graduating from high school, she attended junior college at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, Ga., where she met her first husband, Morris Ramey. During WW II, while Morris attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., she worked for the Vultee Aircraft Corp. building B-24 bombers, first as a riveter and later as an electrician. After Morris completed seminary, they moved to the Gainesville area where he served as pastor at First Baptist Church of Archer and then at Parkview Baptist Church. After Morris' early death, Mrs. Hasty married Allen Hasty of Gainesville. Mrs. Hasty and Allen were long-time active members of Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville. She worked as the educational secretary at First Baptist Church in Gainesville and later for the Baptist Student Center at the University of Florida, where she retired as associate director in 1985 after 22 years of service. Mrs. Hasty was an excellent cook, whether preparing food for three or 300, and for many years fed students at the center's Thursday night "Gator" dinners. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends, especially in the North Carolina mountains where she previously owned a summer home. She also had a green thumb for growing African Violets and other plants.

Mrs. Hasty was preceded in death by husband The Rev. Morris J. Ramey, husband Allen H. Hasty, son Edwin M. Ramey; by step-daughter Helen Shacoski of Longwood, Fl. and granddaughter Teresa Vaughan Wright. She is survived by daughter Katrina Ramey Vaughan Warren (Jerry) of Hawthorne, Fl.; step-daughter Barbara Donaldson (Buck) of Knoxville Tenn.; sister Ruth King of Covington, Ga.; daughter-in-law Joyce Johnson Ramey of Gainesville, Fl.; three grandchildren, Paul Ramey (Karen) of Gainesville, Fl.; Anne Ramey Laffoon (Jeff) of Sugar Hill, Ga.; and Jeff Vaughan (Monique) of Charlottesville, Va.; five step grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
