Robert W. Meier died peacefully on September 15, five weeks short of his 92nd birthday, of age-related causes. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Janice Ranum Meier, and two daughters, Deborah Meier Killian of Eugene, and Julie Meter Wright of San Diego.

Bob and Jan moved to Eugene in 2008 from Gainesville, Florida. In Gainesville, Bob and his wife were active volunteers.

He served as a Big Brother, a Guardian ad Litem, a Kiwanian (where he was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1981), a school volunteer, a hospital volunteer, and a member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers & of Kiwanis Club of University City. He was honored as the Burger King Volunteer of the Year in 1980 and received the Rotary Club Volunteer of the Year award in 1991.

He is a lifelong Lutheran and has served his churches as a Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Church Council Member, Chairman of Board of Trustees, & Lector.

He was in US Navy from Sept. 1939 to Sept. 1945 and honorably discharged with rank of Chief Petty Officer. The family plans for his cremated remains to be buried at sea.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Betty S. Meier of Mason City, Iowa, a daughter, Carolyn Meier Freeman of Washington DC, and son-in-law Bradley P. Killian of Eugene; big sisters Julie Turgasen of Chicago and Helen Moore of Atlanta, & brother Harry Meier of Tucson.

The family has requested remembrances to the American Red Cross.
