Gainesville - Troy Searcy Tibbs Hessey, age 92, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Haven Hospice ET. York Care Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Mrs. Hessey was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 20, 1921, to Mr. and Mrs. John James Tibbs. She began piano lessons at the age of four, and became a well known concert pianist throughout North Florida. She attended Robert E. Lee High School, and passed on the opportunity to attend The Juilliard School of Music in New York City in order to marry her teenage sweetheart, Francis (Frank) Dodson Hessey at the tender age of 20. Frank's career as an officer and fighter pilot in the US Air Force led them to travel the globe, living in faraway places like Japan, the Philippines, Alaska, as well as Maine, New Jersey, California, Texas, Alabama and Florida. In the midst of all this, Troy raised two children, and was active in the Officer's Wives Club. Where ever the Hesseys lived at any given time, they always joined the local country club and maintained a highly energetic social life as well as enjoying many days spent of the golf course. When Troy and Frank retired in Gainesville, Florida in the early 70's, they were active members of Gainesville Golf and Country Club. Troy was a longtime member of the University of Florida Lady Gator Golf Boosters and at one time served as its president. Troy was tireless in her pursuit of fun and spending time with her many wonderful friends, whether that be playing regular games of Bridge, Poker, playing golf or eating out. And on top of all that, she was a volunteer at North Florida Regional Medical Center for nearly 30 years. Troy has always been known for her fantastic sense of humor, and her boisterous, uninhibited and infectious laughter, as well as the marvelous piano-player, called upon to play at every party she went to where there was a piano. All who knew her were just crazy about her. And most of all, she was a loving, kind and hilariously entertaining grandmother to Farrah, her only grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Col. Frank Hessey, by her older brother John James Tibbs, Jr., and many of her dear friends. Her survivors include her son, Dodd Hessey of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii; her daughter, Jill Hessey Miller of Gainesville; her granddaughter Farrah Miller Pirkle of Gainesville and Vero Beach; Farrah's husband Patrick Pirkle, DMD Vero Beach, her great-grandboys Griffin age 8 and Liam age 2, and her beloved kitty Jasmine. Last but not least, Troy leaves behind many wonderful friends at The Atrium in Gainesville, and her kind and loving care-giver, Marilyn Jordan.

Memorial contributions may be made in Troy's name to the Lady Gator Golf Boosters Fund Number 16693, c/o Gator Boosters, Inc., P.O. box 13796, Gainesville, FL 32604-1796; or to Haven Hospice, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
