SUGGS, WALTER MARVIN

Fernandina Beach - Mr. Walter Marvin Suggs, age 84, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Friday evening, November 30, 2012, at the Acosta Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

Born in Oxford, FL, he was one of five children, born to Jack and Thelma Suggs. Growing up in Newberry, FL, he was a graduate of Newberry High School, Class of 1945. Mr. Suggs would later attend Jones Business College in Jacksonville. He had worked for St. Regis Pulp and Paper on Eastport Road in North Jacksonville as an Operator for over 35 years. He brought his family to the Blackrock area of Fernandina Beach in 1969 and has resided in the same residence since.

An amazing man, loving husband and gentle father, Mr. Suggs was a mentor in some fashion to every member of his family. He felt strongly that each child and grandchild needed to be taught financial management and that sons and grandsons should be taught various masculine skills. Being raised during a time when "your word was your bond", his integrity and morals were revered by his family as an example for each of them to pattern their lives after.

Mr. Suggs was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a longtime member of the Blackrock Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by two brothers.

He leaves behind, his wife of 54 years, Honie Mae Goff Suggs, Fernandina Beach, FL, a son, Warren O'Toole (Peggy), a daughter, Vivian Ivey (Loyd), all of Jacksonville, FL, three grandchildren, Kimberly, Allen and Becky, six great grandchildren, Makayla, Colin and Emily of Jacksonville, FL, Katelyn, Maison and Drake of North Carolina, brother, Charles Suggs, Smithsburg, MD, two sisters, Ruth Jump, Gainesville, FL, Clara Russell, Ft. McCoy, FL and many close nieces and nephews that he raised as his own children.

Funeral services will be at 6:30 pm on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Blackrock Baptist Church with Reverend Van Power, officiating.

His family will receive friends on Monday, from 6:00 pm until the hour of service at the church.

Graveside services will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 am as he is laid to rest in the Goff family section of Newberry Cemetery, Newberry, FL. Family and friends are invited to visit at the graveside from 10:00 am until the hour of service.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Blackrock Baptist Church, Youth Fund, 96362 Blackrock Road, Yulee, FL 32097.
