William Alvin Diven was born November 9, 1934 in Bronx, N.Y., to Eva (Kaupelis) and William Diven, died January 5th, age 78 after an extended illness at the V.A. in Gainesville, Florida.
Mr. Diven moved with his family at 9 years old to Marlborough, N.J. and graduated from Freehold H.S. in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army where he began his work in electronics and communications. He worked for Western Electric in N.J., moving to Rochester, N.Y. to work at Stromberg Carlson and Northern Telecom which led him to Florida where he helped develop the communications system for Disney World.
Mr. Diven is survived by Betty Lou (Riggio) his wife of 57 years, 5 children: Jim (Donna), Cindy (JoAnne), Fran (Bill), Betty Jean (George) and Lori (Mike), 13 grandchildren(Jason, Jack, Jimmy, Julia, Owen, Kevin, Andrea, Laura, Lexi, Zach, Emma Jean, Kyle, Bryan) and 3 great grandchildren (Connor, Abby & Cory). As a young man he was a volunteer firefighter in Marlborough, N.J., a Little League baseball and Pop Warner football coach. He was a member of A.A. for 30 years, wood craftsman, loved the Yankees and his family.
His family extends a heartfelt thanks to the many Fire/EMS, doctors, nurses and hospital staff who cared for him over many years in this community.
A service will be held 11am at the Highland Presbyterian Church, 1001 NE 16th Ave., Saturday, January 12th, followed by interment at Forest Meadows East at 3700 Hawthorne Road in Gainesville. Moring Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
