BARDEN, KATHERINE
WILLIS
Katherine Willis Barden, age 61, passed away from brain cancer on Monday April 16, 2012. She is survived by her husband of forty years David Barden of Gainesville, FL, her son Eric (Clarissa) and grandsons Isaac and Daniel of Summerville, SC, her daughter Jennifer (Barden) Sirera (Sean) and grandson Ethan of Gainesville, FL, her son Kevin Barden (Mandy) of Buford, GA, her mother Betty Willis of Charlotte, NC, her sister Deborah Lott (David) of Fernandina Beach, FL, her brothers Dennis Willis (Julie) of Oakridge, NC and Stephen Willis of Charlotte, NC and many loving Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Brother and Sister-in-laws. She always had a positive attitude and remained an inspiration to others during her illness.
Kathy worked as a realtor with Prudential Trend Realty in Gainesville Florida. She always gave 150% starting out with clients and ending up with friends. Kathy enjoyed reading and cooking. She was very accomplished in the kitchen and had perfected many favorite dishes. She enjoyed exploring State and National Parks throughout the United States and had fondly earned the nickname "National Park Kathy" from her family. She treasured her family and friends most of all. She loved to vacation with David at the beach and adored having her children and grandchildren around her. She was known as Nana to the grandchildren and was a surrogate Nana to many children. She was a wonderful wife and a loving mother who never hesitated to share her love with others. Her devotion to her family was reflected in her daily life. She has touched so many lives and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 S.W. 24th Avenue. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 5-7pm at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 N.W. 143rd Street.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Shands Office of Development, PO Box 100386, Gainesville, FL 32610-0386, in honor of Katherine Barden for the Climb for Cancer fund as children had a special place in Kathy's heart.
