Lewis L. Yarlett, 93, formerly of Gainesville, passed away on Monday April 23, 2012 in Orange Park, FL. Lew was born in Deer Lodge, Montana to Frank and Hilda (Nelson) Yarlett on February 14, 1919. He served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps in the Burma-China-India theatres during WWII. He received a BS degree from the University of Montana and a Masters degree from Texas A&M. He worked 30 years for the USDA, retiring in 1974. He also worked for Environmental Services and Permitting for 8 years and as an Associate Professor for the University of Florida. Lew served as a deacon at Westside Baptist Church and attended the Lasiter Sunday School Class. He was a member of the R.T. Schafer Masonic Lodge #350 and had lived in Gainesville since 1965. He moved to Orange Park 7 years ago.

Lew was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betsy Glenn Yarlett, and is survived by his daughter Glenna Y.(Chalker) Brown of Orange Park, FL, son Gregory L. Yarlett of Atlanta, GA, granddaughters Kelly (Lawrence) Gierum and Christa (Josh) Crapps, and two great granddaughters.
