BIRD, MABEL DOUGLASS

Mabel Douglass Bird of Gainesville died Wednesday, March 16, 2012. She was 88. Mrs. Bird was born in Charlotte, Texas and graduated from North Texas State Teachers College. She moved here 25 years ago from New Orleans, where she was a real estate broker and active in volunteer work. Married to the late F. Stanley Bird for 60 years, Mabel Bird was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She especially enjoyed celebrating the interests and activities of her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Betty Bird, and husband Jeff Domber of Washington, D.C., Beverly Vloedman and husband Andrew of Gainesville, Florida and F. Stanley Bird, III of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren David Vloedman and Christine Vloedman, and Katherine Vloedman Fosser and husband, Alex Fosser of Gainesville, Florida. Her sister, Dorothy Douglass Stanfield, also survives her.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, with The Reverend Dr. Robert Shettler officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 106 S.W. Third Street Gainesville, FL 32601.
