Mr. Robert "Rob" MacDonald Holland, 44, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Holland was born in Yonkers, New York on December 12, 1967, and grew up in High Point, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of Florida and then joined the U. S. Navy. After the Navy, he returned to Gainesville, where he graduated with a Masters of Education-Student Personnel in Higher Education. He began his career as a college administrator with the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, until he was able to return to the University of Florida to serve as a coordinator for the Department of Housing and Residence Education. Robert was an Eagle Scout, he enjoyed travelling, writing and taking pictures and had a great love for Gator basketball, including working as a volunteer scorekeeper for the Lady Gator Basketball team. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eakin Holland.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Nicholson Holland, of Gainesville, his mother, Brenda Holland, of High Point, NC; two sisters, Heather Sykes, and Kenzie Cheek, both of High Point, NC. Three nephews and one niece also survive.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., in the Baughman Center on the campus of the University of Florida, with Dr. Wayne Griffin, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to Gainesville Pet Rescue, 5403 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32608.
