ABRAHAMSON
Nancy Abrahamson Pinner, 94, resident of Island Grove, Florida, died Monday, September 17, 2012, in the Roberts Care Center, Palatka, following a long illness.
Mrs. Pinner was a native of Marquette, Michigan, born June 14, 1918, to the late Frank and Anna Abrahamson. She was a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II, where she met her husband, the late William James "Bill" Pinner, to whom she was married for 52 years until his death in 1995. Mrs. Pinner continued working as a nurse, living in various duty stations while her husband was still in the Army, eventually moving to Island Grove in 1966, beginning work as a nurse at the Gainesville V.A. Hospital, until her retirement in 1979. She devoted much of her time to the Island Grove community, volunteering and being the "community nurse", for whomever needed help. She was very active in the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Gainesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pinner, two sons, Bruce Pinner and Frank Pinner, and a sister, Sigrid Jetty.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn (Woody) and Marilynn Pinner, of Island Grove; a daughter-in-law, Karen Pinner, of Marietta, Ga; a grandson, Will Pinner, of Vinings, Ga., a granddaughter, Erika Pinner, of Berlin, Germany; a daughter-in-law, Connie Pinner, of Ctira; two step-grandchildren, Ralph Tucker and Michael Tucker, both of Island Grove. She was also survived by a sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Hawthorne, 301 at Lake Avenue, with Pastor Nancy Vogel, officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery, Lochloosa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606.
