Sally Bates passed away on October 27th at the age of 77 at the NFRMC. She grew up in Lexington, MA and graduated from U Mass with a degree in Microbiology. Sally held technical positions at Mass General Hospital, Yale Biophysics Department, and MIT Nutrition and Food Science Department - where she met her husband. Devoted and cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, Sally was recognized as an accomplished gardener, artist, seamstress, and upholsterer - impeded later in life by chronic rheumatoid arthritis. The 4th of Beulah and Russell Davenport's 5 children, Sally is survived by her sister, Shirley Learned, Blairsville, GA; husband Bob Bates; daughters Mandy Bates, Oakland, CA; Cathy Webb and family, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; son Ed Bates, Green Cove Springs, FL; grandchildren Parker, Hayden, and Jaimison Webb; and a quirky 4 yr old Labradoodle, Tugger. Her family is profoundly grateful for the substantial moral support provided by many compassionate, faithful friends, assisted by competent medical care staff over the course of Sally's extended, interacting illnesses. At a later date, a reception at our home is planned; family and friends will be notified accordingly.
