DAVIS, JAMES

CARLTON, SR.

Waldo - James Carlton Davis, Sr. age 96 1/2 of Waldo, Florida went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Haven Hospice. He was born July 10, 1916 in Taylor, Florida.

Carlton was a WWII veteran, serving on the USS Francis M Robinson D.E. 220 from 1942-1944. Carlton worked on the family farm, City Ice and Fuel, Inc., Standard Oil Station and the Atkinson Candy Company in Waldo. He moved to Perry Georgia and continued to work for Atkinson Candy Company. He retired and moved back to Waldo, Florida where he worked for another 29 years reading water meters for the city. Carlton retired again at the age of 95.

Carlton loved gardening, fishing with his brothers and hunting with the Louise Hunting Club. He loved camping with family and friends in Cade's Cove and the blue grass music in Townsend Tennessee.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Lumanda Dyal Davis. Survived by his daughter Betty Ann (Donald) Boals; sons Jim (Helen) Davis of Gainesville, Fl; Louie (Diana) of Waldo, Fl., eight grandchildren Terri (Tim) Williams; Mark (Beth) Boals; Brenda (Steve) Moore; Karen (Kirk) Brooker; Andy (Laura) Davis; Shaughn Henson; Pammy (Ray) Burnsed and Lori Ann (Jason) Tidwell. Carlton had 23 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, his brothers Basil and Alvin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 14370 Kennard Street Waldo, FL, with a viewing beginning one hour prior. Interment will follow in the Rock Cemetery.
