Williston - Flavius Horace Jerrel, age 86, passed away on March 17, 2013, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born in Williston February 8, 1927, and was a life long resident. He was a member at the First United Methodist Church of Williston. He began his work life at the young age of 14, running the movie projector at the Arcade Theater in Williston. He was in the United States Navy during World War II he then spent several years in the US Naval Reserves.
Mr. Jerrel was a self taught master electrician and contractor. He took great pride in teaching the electrical trade to both of his sons. Among his enjoyments were hunting and fishing, strumming his guitar, going on outings with his family, and winning at checkers and gin rummy (unless he chose to let someone else win).
Mr. Jerrel was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Gloria Jerrel, two sons Flavius (Buddy) Jerrel and Richard Jerrel, and his parents Robert and Josie Jerrel. Survivors include daughters Kathleen McDonough of Gainesville, Patricia (Charles) Cain of Alachua, Nancy (Ricky) Starling of Williston, and Jane Jerrel of Gainesville; sister Voncille Drawdy of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Jerrel will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Williston. Funeral services are to follow at 3:00 pm with Reverend Will Clark officiating. Burial will take place at Flemington Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home-Williston.
