Gainesville - Glenda Carol (Hutchings) Good, passed into the hands of the Lord on Friday, May 31, 2013 at E. T. York Hospice Care Center, Gainesville, Florida.
She was born at home during a spring flood on April 18, 1943, in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. At an early age her family moved to the San Joaquin Valley and made their home in Lemoore, California. That is where her star grew bright. An honor student throughout school, Class Valedictorian of Lemoore High School and summa cum laude graduate of University of California at Santa Barbara in Education, 1965, Glenda later earned her master's Degree in Speech at the University of Florida.
Glenda's professional life included over forty years as an educator in California and Alachua County, with the last seven years as Principal of Newberry Elementary (2 years) and Littlewood Elementary (5 years). She retired in 2007 to join her husband in traveling the world. A mentor to many educators in Alachua County, she possessed the remarkable ability to know the name of every child in her schools, as well as parents and staff, and remember them years later as she met them around Gainesville and elsewhere. Glenda was the most thoughtful and giving person to her friends, teachers, staff and family. The most organized person, she had a timely theme for every occasion and every season. Quick-witted, always "on" and anticipating the needs of all, Glenda's creed in life and in education was: "Remember, it is always about what is best for the children!" A fast-growing brain cancer took her life in two months.
Glenda is survived by her husband of 44 years, Paul Good and children Gretchen E. and Paul III, their spouses Pat Johnson and Missy Good, grandchildren, Julia Roe Johnson, Paul Seth Good, Cade and Asher Good, brother, Ronald Hutchings and wife Cynthia, brother-in-law, Timothy A. Good and his children Timothy, Jr. & Caroline, and sister-in-law, Linda A. Pellicci, spouse Joel and children Joel, Jr. and Kristina.
A memorial celebration of Glenda's life will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 4:00 P.M., in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, Gainesville, with Dr. Dan Johnson, officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
