Gainesville - Philip King White, age 96 of Gainesville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014. He was born May 22, 1917 in East Liverpool, Ohio. Mr. White served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He worked as an electrical engineer for the U.S. Government and during that work he created a form of torpedo counter measures for the U.S. Navy that are still in use today. He had an amateur radio interest from the 1920's with extra class license W4TJQ. His hobbies included square, round, line and ballroom dancing and he enjoyed teaching dance to others. Mr. White was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Nora Todd.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan White; son, Dr. Keith White (Melanie) of Gainesville, FL; daughter, Lynne Roberts (Robert) of Fountain, FL; grandchildren, Robyn Sekula, Ian and Marshal White and great grandchildren, Alice and Seth Sekula.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., at The Chapel at The Village, 8000 NW 27th Blvd., Gainesville, with Dr. Dan Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to American Brain Foundation at
