Gainesville - Dr. Lovetta L. Smith, age 61, passed away May 27, 2014 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Dr. Smith moved to Gainesville from Washington, DC twenty-six years ago, she was the Past Asst. Chief of Nursing at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Professor of Nursing, U of F, President's Handicap Person of the Year, and member of the Black Nurses Association. She was a graduate of Adelphi University in New York, for her undergraduate studies and Master's degree. Ms. Smith received her Phd from Catholic University, Washington, DC. Ms. Smith was a member of Campus Church of Christ.

She is survived by her sister, Tracy Moring (Howard), Gainesville, FL; parents, Odell Smith, Sr., Alfretta Smith, both of Gainesville, FL; brothers, Odell Smith, Jr., (Elsa), Washington, DC, Jonathan Smith (Erika), and Craig Smith, both of Gainesville, FL.

A Service of Remembrance will be held 11:00am, Monday, June 2, 2014, at Campus Church of Christ. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc., 18 N.W. 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL.
