Gainesville - Gene Robinson, age 89 went to his eternal home peacefully May 30, 2014. He was born in Melrose, to parents Isaac and Maude Robinson. The family moved to Gainesville when Gene was 7 years old. He worked with his brothers in their father's market. Gene opened "Gene's Grocery" and served many families until he was 65 years old. Gene also owned and operated several rental properties.

Gene was a devoted "man of God". He was ordained as a deacon at age 21. He served as deacon and Sunday School Teacher at North Central Baptist, Ridgeview Baptist and Calvary Baptist Church. Gene was one of the founders of Grace Baptist Church, which started in his home. He was also an associate member of Suwannee Baptist Church.

Gene was led to start a ministry and was ordained as a minister at age 72. Life's Gateway Ministry was established and began in his home. Gene's son, Cleve was ordained as a minister, June, 2013, and is committed to continue God's plan following his father's example.

Gene touched many lives visiting residents at the Rehab Centers faithfully every 2 weeks for 18 years.

Gene was preceded by his first wife Faye Coleman Robinson; son, Ricky Robinson; sisters, Rita Robinson, Oreon Johnson and Elouise Ramsey, brothers, Emerald Robinson and A.M. (Bud) Robinson. Gene is survived by his wife, Pamela Lamb Robinson; son, Cleve Robinson (Sylvia) of Hawthorne; daughters, Mary Crown of Gainesville, Karen Glover (Stan) of Birmingham, AL; step-son, Troy Lamb and step-daughter Lori Elkin (Duane) of Gainesville; 2 grandsons, Ronnie Crown (Valerie) and Scott Crown (Kim) of Alachua, granddaughter, Sarah Jane Logwood (J.R.) of Birmingham, AL and 4 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Crown, Courtney Crown and Neko Logwood.

A Memorial Service will be held June 21, 2014 at 1:00PM at Grace Baptist Church, 7100 NW 39th Ave., Gainesville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Life's Gateway Ministry, 1720 NW 12th, Gainesville, FL 32609. Arrangements are under the care of Moring Funeral Home, Melrose, FL.
