Gainesville - Earl M. Reames passed away June 25, 2014 at Gainesville Health Care Center.

Mr. Reames was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Jean Louise Neely Reames. He is survived by two sons, John N. Reames and Joseph M. Reames (Margery); three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother Sideny Reames of Bradenton, FL; two sisters, Ann Maring of Bradenton and Mary Jones of Mt. Airy, NC.

Mr. Reames graduated from Gainesville High School in 1935 and attended the University of Florida. As a proud Gator he was a long time member of the Alumni Association and Florida Gator Touchdown Club.

He was a member of the Greatest Generation and served in the Railway Mail Service, the Pacific Campaign in the United States Army during World War II, and retired in 1982 from the US Postal Service.

Mr. Reames was an active member and leader in the community. He was a Charter Member and Elder at Highlands Presbyterian Church, served in many varied position for the Alachua District, North Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he was a holder of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post #16 and a former member of the Barber Gators vocal group.

The family wants to express their deep appreciation to the Gainesville Health Care Center staff for their compassionate care for the past several years.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or Hospice of Citrus and Nature Coast.

A Memorial Funeral Service for Mr. Reames will be conducted Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Milam Funeral Home, 311 S. Main Street, Gainesville, Florida.

"As I wrap my arms around you and welcome you I say 'Well done, my good and faithful servant!' May you live in the house of The Lord forever."
