Gainesville - Mrs. Ovella H. Martin, age 77, passed away July 9, 2014 at Shands Hospital UF. Mrs. Martin was a member of Galilee Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Deaconess Ministry, Pulpit Aide Ministry, and Seniors Ministry. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, graduate of Shell High School, class of 1956, attended Santa Fe High School, and retired as a Human Service Worker, II from the State of Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie L. Martin, Hawthorne, FL; children, Randy Martin, Jacksonville, FL, Kersandras Hightower (Desi), High Springs, FL, Carole Martin-Long (Rodney), Gainesville, FL; siblings, Lenton Harris (Lori), Orlando, FL, Lonnie Harris, Gainesville, FL, James Harris (Johnnie Mae), Tampa, FL, John Harris (Rosa), Alice Small, Irish Jenkins, all of Hawthorne, FL, Daisy Morris, Sparr, FL; grandchildren, Terry Robinson, Orlando, FL, Steven Long, Julius Long, both of Gainesville, FL; two step-grandchildren, Jasmine Rollins, (Geronnie), Christopher Hightower, and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Martin will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Galilee Baptist Church, Rev. Carl L. Gadson, Officiating; burial will follow in Hawthorne Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc., 18 N.W. 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL.

Mrs. Martin will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 2:00 until 7:00pm, and on Sunday at the Church from 2:00pm until the hour of service. Family and friends are asked to meet on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin at 2:30pm to form the cortege.
