Chiefland - Walter John MacMichael, 80, of Chiefland, passed away July 25, 2014. Walt was born June 26, 1934 and raised in Detroit, MI. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Detroit after 33 years as a phone and cable technician,

Walt and his wife Kay were snowbirds between Chiefland, FL and West Bloomfield, MI for 11 years and then moved to Chiefland permanently in 2011.

He leaves behind his friends and neighbors in Buck Bay and Fowlers Bluff, as well as the drivers he rode with from the Dodge dealership in town where he helped with transporting vehicles. He also left behind his old friends he grew up with in Detroit and the friends he made at Ford.

His major hobbies were yard work and gardening, fixing things and lapidary work. Picking up Lake Superior's agates on the beach, camping, wine making and lapidary were his most favorite things.

He leaves behind his wife, Kay, of 29 years; daughter, Gail Burk; son Kevin (Jennifer) MacMichael with 2 sons Kyle & Teagen and 2 step sons; son James MacMichael and his daughter Samantha; sisters Joan Roland, June Mancuso, Jane (Marc) Reaume; stepdaughter Joanne (John) Adams and 6 granddaughters; brother John Kempel; Aunt Isabel Willing; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walt was not expected to survive an illness in 2000, but he said God sent him back. God gave him 14 more wonderful years.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Chiefland. Interment will follow at the Hardeetown Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 1 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
