JAMES ADOLPHUS, 87
Gainesville - Mr. James Adolphus 'Buck' Pickett, Jr., 87, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, August 25, 2014, in the Tavares Hospice House, following a long illness.
Mr. Pickett was born in Gainesville, on August 13, 1927 to the late James Adolphus, Sr., and Reba Estelle Young Pickett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Japan. He worked for many years for the City of Gainesville as a line foreman until his retirement. He then went to work as an inside electrician for the Alachua County School Board. Buck loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing or working in his garden. He was an avid gator fan, never missing a game.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Suvilla 'Sue' Pickett; a daughter, Alma Jean (Ron) Temple of Apopka; a son, James Adolphus (Sharon) Pickett, III, of Mt. Dora; four grandchildren, Barbara Sue (Chris) Porch, Penny Ann (Marty) Ferdig, Heather (Ron) Sheppard, and Elizabeth (Matt) Hass; step granddaughters, Megan, Kelly and Christina; Ten great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., in the Chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment with military honors will be held in Memorial Park East.
