BARBARA L. BOOTH
Barbara L. Booth Mitola, 89, of Gainesville, FL, passed away on January 1, 2018. Barbara was born in Providence, RI on May 14, 1928 and lived in Georgiaville as a child. She married Joseph Mitola Jr. in November 1947 and moved to Johnston, RI where she lived until 1971 when she moved to Jacksonville, FL. She lived in several cities throughout Florida from 1971 until 2010 when she relocated to The Village in Gainesville, FL.
She attended Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence and obtained her Degree in Education - Home Economics from the University of Rhode Island in 1969. She taught at Johnston Middle/High School until 1971 and then taught at Ed White High School in Jacksonville, FL. As she moved further south in Florida through the years, she continued as a substitute teacher.
She was widowed in 1989. She was always an active individual and traveled extensively including China, the Holy Lands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bahamas, England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Bermuda and most of the states in the United States including Hawaii and Alaska.
She moved to Ocala, FL to On Top of the World in 1991 and participated in many activities including the synchronized swimming group - Dollfins, also was a member of Kitchen Kut Ups and she was a valued volunteer at Timber Ridge in Ocala, FL and was honored as volunteer of the year in 2003. She was a volunteer in the Library at The Village while she resided there, books and lifelong learning was something she valued. She attended First Christian Church in Gainesville.
She was also an avid supporter of and walked in many 'Memory' walks, raising money for their research. She was also a supporter of the Wycliffe Bible Translators and Red Cloud Indian School, South Dakota.
She is preceded in death by her husband and a daughter Pamela who died shortly after her birth in 1952. She is survived by her children, Dr. Joseph (Evelyn) Mitola III of Cocoa Beach FL, Gail E. (John) Morris of Ocala FL, Daniel W. (Dana) Mitola of Auburndale FL and Paul A. (Betty) Mitola of Hawthorne FL; seven grandchildren, Barbara P. (Mike) Mitola Scott of Gainesville FL, Daniel 'D.J.' W. Mitola, Jr. of Middleburg FL, Pamela A. (Jake) Morris Bedford of Hawthorne FL, Jessica M. (Morris) Acree of Gainesville FL, Mark A. (April) Mitola of Keystone Heights FL, Geri (Matt) Roberts of Jacksonville FL, Everett (Alicia) Ogden of Jacksonville FL, and Denise Ogden of Auburndale FL; great grandmother to fifteen and a great-great grandmother to one.
She is also survived by her brother Donald (Adah) Booth of Vernon Rockville, CT and sisters-in-law, Martha Tortolani and Grace Mitola of Johnston, RI and Delores Tice of Providence, RI.
A celebration of her life will be held on February 3, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00am at The Village Chapel, 8000 NW 27th Blvd, Gainesville FL 32606. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the at alz.org.
