Charles Oakley Sr., 91, Leesburg, FL, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at Leesburg Regional Hospital, Leesburg, FL.
He was a manager with Murray Electrical System in the mid 40's and opened his own Certified Public Accounting business in the early 50's in Murray before moving the business to Paducah. Beginning in the late 50's, he managed the finances of the newly formed city of Oakridge, TN, for 17 years, then, moved to Gainesville, FL and further to Leesburg where he retired. He was a former member of the First Christian Church, the Moose and Elk Clubs in Murray and Paducah. Mr. Oakley was awarded the Duke of Paducah, and served as District Governor for the KY Lions Club. He was also an international award winning ballroom dancer.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Scullin Oakley, Leesburg, FL; two sons, Charles H. Oakley Jr., wife, Ann, Jacksonville, FL, Stephan L. Oakley, wife, Shirley, Tulsa, OK; a daughter, Debra K. Labud, husband, Tony, Micanopy, FL; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The senior Oakley is preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Thomas; his parents William H. & MattieDodgen Oakley; a daughter, Dixie Lee Oakley and two brothers; Cecil Oakley and William Oakley Jr.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, at Murray City Cemetery, Murray, KY.
The family will receive visitors prior to the graveside service at Imes-Miller Funeral Home, Murray, starting at 11:00 AM.
