Beth Bates Bass, 91, of Dallas, TX, and formerly Gainesville, FL, passed away on Oct. 13, 2012.

Beth was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Piermont, NY. She had a life-long love of learning. Beth majored in Dietetics and Chemistry at Syracuse University graduating in 1943. She studied nutrition at John Hopkins and received a MS in Education at FSU in 1965.

Over her career, Beth held a variety of positions in the field of nutrition. In WW II, she was Head Dietitian at Knoxville, TN, General Hospital. In the 1960's, Beth worked in School Lunch Supervision in local and county-wide positions. In the 1980's, Beth retired as Associate Professor at the University of Florida. She worked in the Extension Program of the Institute of Food and Agriculture Science and published numerous articles on using Florida Agricultural products. She also traveled throughout the state doing programs educating county Extension Agents.

Beth was married and the widow of three husbands who each passed away: John D. Bates in 1963, Robert Walsh in 1991, and Robert Bass in 2002. Beth is survived by her son John E. Bates, daughter Barbara Bates, brother Ernest Howell and many nieces and nephews.

Beth's zest for life included a love of music, travel, and a special interest in the lives of family and many friends. She is also remembered for her strength as a caregiver for each of her husbands.

A Memorial Service in celebration of her life was held at Windsor Senior Living in Dallas on Oct 20. Burial followed at the family burial site in Roselawn Cemetery Tallahassee, FL.
