Hubert C. (Jeff) Jeffcoat, of Gainesville, passed on November 15, 2012. He was 91. Born in Kirkland, GA, his family moved to Florida in the 1930's.

Hubert served in the US Army during WWII, primarily in the Philippines.

He studied Commercial Art at Stetson University, played minor league baseball, and married the love of his life, Mary Louise McKinney. They settled in Gainesville, where he opened Jeffcoat Neon Signs in the late 1940's and became a well known member of Gainesville's business community. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing the Gator head for Florida Field.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville for over 65 years. He was a gentle and generous man. During his lifetime he served on the Crescent Foundation Board, was a member of the Gainesville Shrine Club, Schafer Lodge No. 350, F&AM, a past member of the Ocala Valley Scottish Rite and of the Gainesville Rite Bodies.

Before he lost his sight, Hubert loved the outdoors, was an avid golfer and loved fishing, traveling, and sports. He was a Gator fan until the very end.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Emory, Ernest, and Howard, his sister Carolyn, and his parents.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Louise Jeffcoat, son Craig Jeffcoat, daughters, Janis Jeffcoat (Brady Owen), Karen Jeffcoat Gunter, (George Gunter) and their daughters Paige and Lydia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services, beginning at 12:00 PM. on Monday, November 19, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Gainesville, 14105 N.W. 39 Ave. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, with Dr. John Fairless officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Glaucoma Research Foundation, at
