Gainesville - Mr. James Vernon Fondren, 68, passed away on November 29th, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville. Born in Ohatchee, Alabama, lie was one of nine children born to James Cleveland and Mary Reynolds Fondren on October 25TH, 1944.
Mr. Fondren moved to Pompano Beach, Florida at age 16, then proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as a jet engine mechanic with tours in Vietnam. He enjoyed volunteering at the VA Medical Center and especially attending volleyball, soccer and football games of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 28 years Gaynelle Fondren, daughters Stephanie Leeward (Kent), of Ocala, FL, Ashley Graetz (Allan) of High Springs, FL, sisters Fay Smith of Houston, Texas, sister Anita Brown Pompano Beach, FL, brother Bill Fondren of Floral City, FL, brother Tom Fondren (Renee) of Dunedin, FL, four grandchildren Kylie, Conner, Alden and Abbigail and several nieces and nephews; and of course his furry kids Ty and Bailey. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Jeannette Hunter, brothers Jerre, Gene and Joe.
A memorial will be held Saturday, December 8th, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in the atrium, 4000 NW 53rd Ave., Gainesville, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwar-riorproject.org) in memory of James Fondren.
