James Edmerson "Ned" Cannon passed away December 14, 2012 at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville Florida. He was born December 27th, 1924 in Gainesville to William Edward Cannon and Louise Beall Cannon.

Ned was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William E. "Billy" Cannon, Jr., as well as his step-grandson, Jesse Scott Davis. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marjorie "Marge" Cannon, his son, James E. "Rusty" Cannon (Susie), his daughters, Kathleen Cannon Gallardo (Rob) and Carol Finley Cannon Diuguid (Chris); grandchildren, James P. Cannon, Lora Cannon, Matthew Gallardo and Bailey Asbury Diuguid. Also surviving are step-children Scott Facey (Teresa) and Alison Mathena (Shawn) and step-grandchildren Casey Diuguid and Christina Diuguid, also niece Candy Nabell (Robert).

In his early years Ned lived in Gainesville, Eustis, Orlando, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Seabreeze High School, Daytona Beach, Florida in 1942 and Duke University 1948 with a BSME. His education was interrupted by World War II during which time he served in the US Navy for three years and was discharged as Radio Operator 2/C.

Ned worked for USF&G Insurance Company in Jacksonville, Florida for eight years as Payroll Auditor, Safety Engineer and Commercial Lines Underwriter. He returned to Gainesville August 1956 and joined Cannon Insurance Agency which later became Carmin-Treweek Insurance and then HRH Insurance. He retired from the agency at the end of 1989 as Executive Vice President. After several years of retirement Ned worked part time with King Insurance Agency retiring after ten years of service at the end of 2004.

Ned was active in numerous organizations including Red Cross Board; YMCA Board 2nd Vice President; Gainesville Girls Club of Alachua County Board; Dance Alive Board; Area Chamber of Commerce Board and Division Vice President, also served as long time Diplomat (membership committee); United Way of Alachua County Board and Division Chairperson; also Gainesville Association of Insurance Agents President. He served as President of the University City Kiwanis Club and later, nine years as secretary. He attained a fifty-five year perfect attendance pin and also the Hixson Fellow award. Other service was Captain of Gainesville Quarterback Club and a member since 1956. He was also President of Gainesville Golf and County Club; lifetime member of the Elks Club; lifetime member of the , Alachua County Unit (past president and treasurer), Florida Division (past director and executive committee member) and served as chairman of Winn Dixie advisory Committee. He was also a member of Gainesville High School Has Beens. Ned was a member, past vestry member and long time usher of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Gainesville, Florida.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church December 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Building Fund, 100 NE 1st Street, Gainesville, Florida or Winn Dixie , 2119 SW 16th Street, Gainesville, Florida 32608.
