Chiefland - Oscar Raymond Underwood, 82, of Chiefland, born in Pinellas Park, FL on February 22, 1930, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Jan. 8, 2013, at Haven Hospice in Chiefland.
Preceded in death by his parents, Wiley & Alma Underwood, sister Barbara Jean Gibson, brother Jack Edgar Underwood and two nieces. He is also preceded by Susan A. Underwood, mother of their five surviving sons, Stanley R. Underwood, Robert E. Underwood, William J. Underwood, James E. Underwood, and John W. Underwood, and their 12 grandchildren, 22 great grand children, 10 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandson, and Bruce McMillan who was raised from a young age by Oscar & Sue. He is also survived by his wife, Patsy M. Underwood, two step-children Al Hardee and Debbie Basset, two grandchildren.
Oscar served in the US Marine Corps 6 years, 3 active during the Korean War. While in the Reserves he became 1952 Golden Glove of Florida.
With over 38 years in law enforcement, he served 10 of those years as Police Chief in Chiefland.
From a young age he played many musical instruments with his favorite being the mandolin.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Hardeetown Baptist Church.
Visitation begins a 9:00 AM and services will begin at 11:00 AM with interment following at Joppa Cemetery, Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1301 N.
