Rodger Allan Young left this earth for Heaven on March 31, 2013, at the age of 64.5 years, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). His passing was peaceful at home, surrounded by family and friends.

Rodger was born in Hagerstown, MD on June 24, 1948 to Mildred Blickenstaff Young and David Augustus Young, Sr. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School and the University of Florida, College of Business with a B.S., B.A. , majoring in Accounting. Rodger was a C.P.A. with James Moore and Company, then later, had his own business, and lastly, was a Manager with Purvis, Gray, and Company for 25 years. His area of expertise was Estates and Trusts Taxation. He considered it a privilege and honor to serve his clients for over 40 years. Rodger was a member of AICPA, FICPA, and the Estate Planning Council.

Rodger loved God, was a committed Christian, and member of the Campus Church of Christ, where he served as the Deacon of Finance for over 16 years. Rodger loved all types of music and had a beautiful bass singing voice. He was a gourmet cook, who always enjoyed a good cup of coffee. His favorite places, in addition to home and church, were the beach and the mountains. He liked to sail, karate, hike, and camp. He was known for his warm, welcoming hugs, and generous personality. Rodger had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger.

Rodger was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Nancy Gill Young and sons, Matthew Allan Young in Gainesville, Rodger Allan Young, Jr. (Cate), in Tallahassee, and brother, David A. Young, Jr., (Jackie), in Ocala. He has nieces and nephews in Ocala, Tampa, and Atlanta, and cousins and aunts in Hagerstown, MD.

Rodger was well loved by all who knew him and will be missed by many. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 2:00pm, at the Campus Church of Christ with Dr. William Wharton and Mr. Eric Brown officiating. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Family Services, or the Ukraine Mission Fund at Campus Church of Christ, 2720 SW 2nd Ave. Gainesville, FL 32607, or the ALS Association.
