Ruth was born on April 30, 1923 in Clearwater, Florida, fifth child of Norval Merritt and Almira Rogers Faulds. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Melisse and Jeanette and brothers Morris and Vincent. Her youngest brother, Stanley (wife Betty) Faulds of Wilmington, Delaware, survives. She married Carlis Taylor in June, 1945. They later divorced. After her children reached school age Ruth earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Florida and, in 1955, began her 30-year teaching career, sharing her love of science with hundreds of high school students first in Gainesville and later Ft. Lauderdale, mentoring many to pursue careers in research and medicine.
