Lydia G. Manning, age 98, passed away Tuesday, August 27, at the Plantation Oaks Assisted Living Center in High Springs, FL. Lydia was born on June 7, 1915 in Newberry, FL. One of seven children, Lydia was the fourth born of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Pace Getzen.
Lydia was wed to Ernest D. Manning of Florala, Alabama on June 4, 1939. They met in Gainesville. Lydia was employed near the University of FL where Ernest was a student. Lydia also worked for the Alachua County School System and as office manager of Manning Appraisal Service. Like many women of her generation, Lydia's main work in life was being a strong supportive wife and mother. Lydia was predeceased by Ernest and her sisters Mary Wilson, Sarah Robertson, Annete Getzen and brother Samuel Getzen.
Lydia is survived by her daughter Gail Harris and sons Bud Manning (Mary) and Jim Manning (Denise). She is also survived by her sisters Julia Young and Katherine Barry, granddaughters Karen Dieterich, Jennifer Forrester, Joy Moore, Ashley Granger, April Manning and five great grandchildren.
Lydia was a loving mother who supported her children with tenderness and strength. She was loved by those that came to know her and was comforted by the caring relationships she developed at Plantation Oaks in her last 3 years. She will live on the hearts of many.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM at High Springs Church of Christ, 520 N.E. Santa Fe Blvd, with Danny DeLoach officiating. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.
