St. Augustine - Jacqueline Bartling Ward, St. Augustine resident, passed away September 8, 2013, age 90.
A native of Iowa who spent her early years in the suburbs of Chicago. She began studying painting at age 10 and had been involved in some aspect of the arts almost constantly since then. Mrs. Ward spent 30 years in Gainesville, Florida, sharing a ceramics studio and darkroom with her husband, Phil, who was a professor of Art at the University of Florida. She taught drawing at the Newcomb Art School of Tulane University and in the Architecture Department of the University of Florida. At UF she also occasionally taught ceramics in the Art Department in her husband's place. She has a long exhibition record which includes national, regional and state shows, both competitive and invitational.
Mrs. Ward and her husband retired in 1989 in St. Augustine. Mrs. Ward was active in the Art Association of St Augustine and the North Shore Improvement Association. She was also very active in the First Church of Christ Scientist of St. Augustine.
Preceded in death by her parents, Vern & Sadie Bartling, her brother Bud, and her husband Phillip A. Ward. Survived by her niece, Sandy Eastman of Auburn, Alabama and many friends and students over the years that came under her teaching and friendship.
