Gainesville - E. Everett Gable, Sr., 98, retired auto dealer, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at The Village Retirement Community in Gainesville. Everett was born on August 25, 1915, to John and Hattie Gable in Montgomery, AL. His family moved to Gainesville in 1929 from Hastings, FL. Everett was co-owner of Poole-Gable Motors Dodge in Gainesville for 37 years located in, what is now, the downtown Star Garage. He was married to his loving wife, Barbara Haselton Gable, for 64 years until her death in 2004. He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Everett was a US Air Force veteran of WWII serving as a navigator/instructor. He attended the University of Florida College of Engineering and was an avid Gator fan holding season tickets in the Swamp for 26 years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville and the Lions Club of Gainesville.
He was a kind, generous, and thrifty man who touched many hearts on his journey. A jack-of-all-trades who built his own lake cottage in Melrose and taught many young people to swim and ski.
He is survived by his son Edward E. (Suzanne) Gable, Jr. of Gainesville, grandsons David and Klark, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family will have a private burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Gainesville. The family wishes to thank The Village, Gainesville where he lived for 13 years and especially the staff of Azalea Trace where he was lovingly cared for the past 3 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
