TURNER, MARJORIE L., 93
Gainesville - Marjorie L. Turner, age 93 of Gainesville, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 in Signature Healthcare Center. She was born Ruby Marjorie Lee on June 26, 1920 in Coushatta, Louisiana to Robert E. and Mabel Alexa Teddlie Lee. After graduating from Coushatta High School as Valedictorian, she attended Louisiana State University on a music scholarship. While at LSU she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and earned a bachelor's degree in education. She moved to Boston, MA where she met Hugh J. Turner, Jr. In their 50 years of marriage, they lived in many locations around the world including Okinawa, Germany and France. After Hugh's retirement from the United States Army, they continued to travel extensively. Mrs. Turner was active in Dade City and Gainesville Garden Clubs. She was a member of Amaryllis Circle and was past president of Gainesville Garden Club and a life master flower show judge. In later years she continued to travel extensively for Garden Club events as well as personal pleasure.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Hugh J. Turner, Jr., US Army Ret., daughter, Laurie Turner Freedman and brother, Robert E. Lee, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Hugh J. Turner, III of Palm Coast, FL and Marsha Lee Turner of Chicago, IL and 3 grandchildren, Hugh J. Turner, IV, Chad F. Turner and Jason Turner Freedman.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to
