Melrose - Mr. Gary Edward Hayman age 72, of Melrose passed away at his home, Sunday, November 10, 2013. Mr. Hayman was born on January 29, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edward and Lillian (Vernon) Hayman, and was raised in the Methodist Faith. He graduated from Author Hill High School in Saginaw, MI, and the Police Academy which led to his employment with the Saginaw Police Department. Gary was a Veteran of the United States Army, and the Michigan and Florida National Guard. He spent 27 years in the United States Military retiring as a First Sergeant. Gary also retired from the Miami Police Department following 21 years of service. After moving to Melrose in 1989 from W. Ft. Lauderdale, Gary joined the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. He had been the Post Commander (twice) for the AMVETS Post 86 in Keystone Heights; he was active with the JR ROTC in Keystone and Interlachen, AMVETS Riders, ABATE, VFW in Middleburg, and was a Patriot Guard. Gary was very active with the AMVETS organization and was a Veteran through and through. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Hayman. Survivors are; his wife, Nancy (Campmire) Hayman; daughters, Gail Elaine Hayman Dominguez (Jorge) of St. Augustine, Lisa Marie Hayman Crosby (Tony) of Keystone Heights, Sarah Crystal Adams (Howie) of Gainesville; grandsons, Lex Crosby and Patrick Adams, and a sister-in-law, Audrey Hayman of Lakeland.

A memorial service for Gary will be held, Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the AMVETS Post 86 Keystone Heights. Interment will be at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery.
