Gainesville - Judith Carpenter Bryan, age 69, passed away in Gainesville on January 9, 2014.

Born July 4, 1944, Judy grew up in Barrington, RI. She graduated from Oberlin College, lived in Davis, California for many years, moved to Florida in 1985, and earned her PhD from the University of Florida. She worked for the St. Johns River Water Management District until her retirement. Judy traveled widely to follow a lifelong passion for birding, including all over North America, plus Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Belize, Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela.

Judy Bryan was preceded in death by her parents, Janet (Williams) and Raymond Bryan. She is survived by two brothers David (Nancy) of Hingham, Massachusetts and Dana (Gwendolyn) of Tallahassee, and their families.

Judy knew what she loved, worked hard at it, and followed her own path to reach her goals. Her family, birding friends, and co-workers will all miss her.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Florida Ornithological Society.
