Merritt, Miriam “Mim” - Loganville  
Miriam "Mim" Merritt, age 94, of Loganville, Ga., passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-laws, Richard "Rick" Merritt and Yvonne, Mike Merritt, and James "Greg" and Teresa Merritt; grandchildren, Richard Jr. (Sharyn), Denise and (John) Willis, Matthew and Mary, James Jr., Jonathan, Joshua and (Jaime) Merritt; and eight great-grandchildren. Married in 1937, Mrs. Merritt was the wife of Glenn Merritt for 61 years. From a young age she was a devoted follower of Christ, and a loving, caring mother, wife and grandmother. A celebration service honoring the life of Mim will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Ga. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 27, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Merritt will lie in state on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow services on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Memorial Park, Gainesville, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Touching Lives, P.O. Monkus, Charles - Nicholls  
Charles Monkus, 85, of Nicholls, formerly of Gainesville passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Born on Oct. 7, 1929, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lelia Buchanan Monkus. Mr. Monkus was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was a retired self-employed truck driver. Mr. Monkus was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Waldroup Monkus; three brothers, Jack, Ed and Clyde Monkus; two sisters, Vera Howard and Opal Sewell. Mr. Monkus is survived by one daughter, Joan Elrod Laughlin and son-in-law, Donald Laughlin of Nicholls; three grandsons and their wives, Charles Keith and Stacey Elrod, Kevin Dewayne and Holly Elrod, Christopher Kenneth and Pam Elrod all of Nicholls; six great-grandchildren, Stephanie Elrod, Jake Elrod, Drew Elrod, Gabe Elrod, Conley Harkleroad and Allison Elrod; three sisters-in-law, Alice Hilton, Elizabeth Monkus, Virginia Cooper; one brother, Percival Monkus and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015, in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Campbell will officiate. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 30, 2015, 4-8 p.m. Those wishing to leave online condolences may do so at littledavenport.com.
