Shuford, Joyce Lingle  
Joyce Lingle Shuford, 86, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at her daughter's home in Charlotte, N.C. She was born on Feb. 1, 1929, in Crystal Springs, Miss. One of six siblings, she was the daughter of the late Shelton and Ardie Lingle. After graduating with honors from University of Southern Mississippi, she earned an MSW from the University of Wisconsin and worked for the Child Welfare Department of Jackson, Miss. She was a member of the Junior League of Jackson, Miss., the Vista Volunteers, and was president of the Talisman Club. She served four years on the staff of Mississippi Gov. Bill Waller. After obtaining her Realtor's license, she worked in property management in Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. Retiring to Gainesville, Ga., she served as president of both the Newcomers Club and the Lanier Women's Club, was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville and served Meals on Wheels for the homebound. A nature lover, she enjoyed identifying trees, birdwatching and worked for the U.S. Forest Service at the Chattahoochee National Forest Visitors' Center and was an information specialist at the Dahlonega Visitor Center. She also loved to sing, participating in various quartets, quintets and choirs. She is survived by her youngest brother, Dale Lingle, of Georgia; three daughters, Cassie Shuford of Florida, Stephanie Reinhart of North Carolina, Joyce Ratliff of Washington State; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, Ga. Public Visitation 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service and potluck fellowship. She will be laid to rest aside her brother, Clayton Lingle, at Alta Vista Cemetery. A remarkable and beloved woman, she will be greatly missed. Martha Jo Simmons, 85, of Alto, passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at New Horizons Lanier Park following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with internment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. David McCoy will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Simmons was born on July 6, 1930, in Toccoa, Ga., to the late Hubert Simmons and Mae Irene Pritchett. She was retired from Holiday Inn where she worked as a housekeeper and was of Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Allen May; daughter, Jackie Fay May. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughter, Brenda Mayes Colunga of Alto; sons, Bobby Joe May of Alabama, Bill (Tammi) May of Alabama, George May of Gainesville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ida Simmons of Gainesville and Glady Brent of Gainesville; brother, Junior Simmons of Toccoa. Singleton, Steven Thomas - Flowery Branch  
Mr. Steven Thomas Singleton, age 45, of Flowery Branch passed away on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at 10 a.m. at The Torch Worship Center in Cornelia, Ga., with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Singleton was born on May 6, 1969, in Tampa, Fla., to Patricia Threatt Goodwin. He was part business owner in Easton Transport LLC, and was a member of The Torch Worship Center.
