Eston "Tarzan" Wayne Putman, age 53, of Gainesville passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with internment to follow in Calvary Gardens. The Rev. William Lipscomb and the Rev. Rose Johnson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, from 6–8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Putman was born Feb. 22, 1959, in Gainesville to the late Eston Putman Jr. and Bobbie Darlene Lindsey Putman. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene, where he was a devout Christian. Mr. Putman was a loving and compassionate brother and uncle who earned the "Tarzan" nickname for his swimming proficiency.
Wayne attended the University of Tennessee on both an academic scholarship and an athletic scholarship. His efforts at attaining an Engineering degree were cut short by an automobile accident which left him disabled.
Mr. Putman is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Marilynn Lindsey of Weston, Fla.; sisters, Yvonne Lindsey of Gainesville and Kathy Johnson of Norcross; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Ralph Thompson of Gainesville; sisters, Barbara Putman of Gainesville, Vennie Marble of Gainesville and Juanita Muckle of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Tammy Putman of Gainesville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
