Mr. Hugh Harris "Fuzz" Jackson, 88 of Oakwood, Ga., died Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Northridge Nursing Home in Commerce following an extended illness.
Hugh was born July 18, 1924, in Nelson, Ga., to Esda Fowler and Claud Jackson. He was the youngest of seven children. He loved to tell about receiving his draft notice for World War II
on his 18th birthday and leaving for Army basic training shortly thereafter. He served in Europe from 1943, until the end of the war as an ordinance sergeant. When he returned from the war, he lived in a boarding house with two of his brothers. That boarding house is where he met his future wife in 1947. Hugh worked for Sinclair/BP Oil for 23 years, then started a landscaping company which he owned until his retirement in 1992. He was a loving and devoted husband, son and uncle.
Hugh was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Arlyne Martin Jackson; his parents; brothers, J.C., Judge and Ed; sisters, Mary Jackson, Lorene Jackson and Beulah Dooley; nephew, Michael Dooley; and many well-loved, four-legged family members, most notably Ilsa, Martin, Noah and Zoe. He is survived by his nieces, Melissa Harrelson (Ron) and Cheryl Shead (Ralph); nephews, Charles Jackson (Treva) and Hal Partridge; five great-nephews, Kyle (Rayna) and Drew Harrelson, Wesley and Nicholas Jackson and Matthew Dooley; two great-nieces, Christina Grove and Erica Wright (Jason); several great-great nieces and nephews; and one four-legged companion, Brynn.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.
