Jennifer Lauren Reed, age 31, of Flowery Branch passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at VistaCare Hospice at Emory following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, with entombment to follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pastor Michael Miller and the Rev. Earl Jarrard will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Miss Reed was born Oct. 29, 1980, in Gainesville, Ga., to Stan Reed and Wanda Gilmer Reed Smith. Jennifer was born with cystic fibrosis, struggling her whole life to overcome the symptoms and lead a normal life. Jennifer overcame the odds, fighting for life for 31 years. She was a loving, determined young lady who will be missed by all who knew her. Jennifer graduated from West Hall High School and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Thomas Howard Gilmer, and her mother, Wanda Kay Gilmer Smith.
Miss Reed is survived by her father, Stan Reed of Gainesville; stepdad, Kevin A. Smith of Flowery Branch; grandmother, Marie Gilmer of Oakwood; grandparents, Billy and Sarah Reed of Gillsville; uncles, James Reed, Tony Reed, Mike Gilmer and Ron Gilmer; and a number of cousins and other relatives; and longtime boyfriend, Doug Martin of Flowery Branch.
