Lynford R. Mortland

Lynford R. Mortland, 76, of Gainesville passed away on Feb. 4, 2014. Mr. Mortland was born April 11, 1937, in Isabella, Pa., to the late Lynford R. Mortland and Louise Mortland Goe who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are sisters, Bonita Duncan and Vivian Endsley.

He was retired from General Motors. After retiring, he and his wife traveled throughout North American before settling in Gainesville, Ga., in 1999. He spent many hours doing Peer Support with newly injured spinal cord injury patients at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, and was an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his wife, Marlyn Bayer Mortland; children, Bruce and Karen Mortland, Ohio; and Nancy Mortland, Pennsylvania; grandson, Nicholas Story; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and David Letrick, Shirley Murray and Lois and Harley MacMichael.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, where Mr. Mortland was a member. Interment will be in the church columbarium. The Rev. Daniel Hagmaier and the Rev. Shon Peppers will officiate.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville or the Shepherd Brain and Spinal Center in Atlanta.
