Peter (Impastato) Edwards, longtime resident of Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Ga., died Friday Aug. 1, 2014, after a long and difficult struggle with cancer. His close friends and family were with him in his last hours and moments.
Peter was born Feb. 15, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the third child of the late Olivia (Perrillo) and Procopio Impastato. Peter grew up in Catskill, N.Y., where he developed a love of the outdoors and the Hudson River Valley. His education took him through Catskill High School, study at IBM, RPI and a number of self-directed online courses. Land development and housing construction in the Catskill region preceded professional positions at IBM, Deck and other software tech companies.
Peter and his first wife, the former Beverly Post and Peter's "true love," enjoyed communicating up to his last days. In midlife, Peter moved to Lake Lanier where he formed Lanier Luxury Home Realty. His expertise and dedication to the Harbour Point development on Lake Lanier has been instrumental to the success of the Harbour Point community.
Peter died peacefully at his Harbour Point home on Lake Lanier. His close friends, Chuck and Donna Di Stasio and sister Providence were at his side. Peter is survived by his two sisters, Providence Baker (McLouth) of Fort Myers, Fla., and Maria Rothrock of Palenville, N.Y.; and eight nieces and nephews.
Peter will be remembered for his love of Corvettes, Harley-Davidsons, seafood and having fun with friends. His flair for cooking fresh fish of all varieties will be missed by his devoted circle of close friends and family members who gathered at his table. His love for Lake Lanier will be commemorated by the joining of his ashes with those of his brother Len in the waters of Peter's favorite Lake Lanier cove.
Services will be held at the Little-Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, Ga., on Aug. 16 at 10:30 a.m. A private celebration of Peter's life will follow at Luna's Restaurant in Gainesville.
