Ray Roper, age 83, passed away at his home Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease for over 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Parks and Annice W. Roper; sisters, Lavoria R. Delong, Blanche R. Patterson, Vicie R. Hulsey, Charlsie R. Darracott, Elice R. Butterworth; brothers, Norman Roper, Lester Roper; sisters-in-law, Ruth Roper, Mabelle Roper; brothers-in-law, Clay DeLong, Clinton Hulsey, Bunyon Darracott.
He is survived by his wife, Louell W. Roper; sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Donna Roper, Warren and Debbie Roper; grandchildren, Megan Roper, Justin Roper, Ansley Roper, Maggie Roper; brothers and sister-in-law, Allen and Evelyn Roper, Clay Roper; numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, Ga. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Gainesville, Ga. Mr. Roper will lie in state from 1:30-2 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Stacy Phillips and Chaplain Ron Guess will officiate.
