Sam B. "Sammy" Gee, age 76, of Gainesville, Ga., died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at the Little-Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Peck and the Rev. Whitt Martin will officiate and interment will follow in the Damascus Baptist Church cemetery in Dahlonega, Ga. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Welcome Worship Center church building fund C/O Mary Westmoreland, 1517 Highway 17, Sautee, GA 30571.
Mr. Gee was born in Gainesville, Ga., on May 25, 1937. He was the last living employee of the Gainesville Midland Railroad, retiring after 45 years of service. The railroad company was also later known as Seaboard Coastline and CSX. He took many of the local railroad employees under his wing and trained them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Bell Gee Sr. and Fannie Jarrard Gee.
Survivors include his wife, Betty B. Gee; son Mitchell Gee; daughter and son-in-law Scarlett Gee Woods and Dane, all of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law Melanie Gee Jackson and James of Alabama; four grandchildren, Katie and Jessica Woods, Maddie and Andrew Jackson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
