Barbara Griner Hodges, age 79, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away on Oct. 29, 2013. Barbara graduated Claxton High School and attended the University of Georgia. She was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, traveling, and volunteering. In years passed, she volunteered for political candidates, substitute teaching, worked with the Gainesville Library, and operated the Book Mobile. Barbara was the mother of five and was preceded in death by son, Tommie Hodges III; and husband of 58 years, Tommie Hodges Jr. She is survived by her children, Willis Bartow Hodges and wife, Claudia, Gulf Shores, Ala.; Amy Lee Hodges, St. Pete, Fla., Melville Kiel Hodges, Johns Creek, Ga.; and David Carl Hodges and wife, Stacey, Gainesville, Ga. Barbara is also survived by five grandchildren, Heather Maynard, Lauren Hodges, Gregory Hodges, Tommy Hodges, Andrew Hodges; and great-grandchild, Agustus Maynard. A family memorial service will be held in the spring of 2014 in Claxton, Ga., for both Barbara and Tommie Hodges. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to Hospice of Northeast Georgia.
