Harry William Leavell of Richmond, Ind., passed away on May 31, 2014. He was born March 9, 1919, in Richmond, Ind., the son of Henry Duncan and Bertha Gaines Leavell.

Harry attended Bethel A.M.E. Church; he was a graduate of Earlham College, receiving his B.A. in Abnormal Psychology. He served his country in the United States Air Corps as one of the Tuskeegee Airmen. He held several titles of employment: insurance sales, firefighter, photographer, therapist, psychologist, director of Community Action Agency, Headstart Program, Area Manpower Planning Commission, owner/director Biofeedback Clinic, researcher, inventor, Menninger Foundation, resident historian and visionary.

Harry dedicated his life to his family and to assisting individuals to realize their full potential and self-worth. He did the same for the entire Richmond community by awakening it to its historic significance and its magnificent potential.

Harry leaves to cherish his memory his children, Harry "Bill" (Yvonne) Leavell of Lansing, Mich., the Rev. Michael (Michelle) Leavell of Atlanta, Henry (Amy) Leavell of Richmond, Ind., and Shree (Daryl) Nicholson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; his grandchildren, Hank, Lamont (Delaine), Kofi, Chad, Brian, Saeed, Sean, Matt (Jamila), Mark (Melissa), Takesha, Shareef, Sef, Tela and Diara; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends; special friends, Laurel Martin and Marty Bergen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,Dolores Alexander Leavell (1920-1987); and his brother Micajah Leavell.

Funeral service will be held Friday, June 6, 2014, at noon at Community Family Funeral Home, 101 W. Main St., Richmond, IN 47374, where calling will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
