John Wayne Barnes, age 71, of Cumming, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. John was born June 15, 1942, in Raleigh, N.C., and served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army with the Military Police in Vietnam. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Physical Education and loved the "Dawgs." John loved golf and his career as Sales Manager with Greene Ford in Gainesville. His grandchildren were his "sunshine!" A lifelong Baptist and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, John is preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Barnes, Jimmy Barnes and Fred Barnes; and a sister, Ruth Powell.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marie Martin Barnes; his sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Lori Barnes-Simmons, Illinois; Bradley and Allison Martin, Dahlonega; brothers, Wade Barnes, Ohio; and Thurmond Barnes, Virginia; four grandchildren, Sylvia and James Robert Simmons and Jacob and Caleb Martin; a special niece, Hannah Loggins; along with many other loved ones and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Garry English, the Rev. Ruel Martin and the Rev. Dennis Bottoms and the Rev. Dusty Mathis officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home Saturday from 5 until 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 9, and Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Camp Fund.
