Robert E. "Bob" Burkholder, 95, Gainesville passed away Feb. 20, 2013, in Gainesville, Ga. He was born in 1918 in Philadelphia; the second son of George and Sela Burkholder.

Bob, a mechanical engineer, graduated from Purdue University. While there he met his future bride, Lois, a graduate of nearby Butler University. They were married in 1942, and enjoyed 65 wonderful years together until Lois' death in 2007.
The family moved to Sandy Springs, Ga., in 1958, when Bob began a long career with Lockheed Martin. He retired in 1983. Before retirement, he moved to Lake Arrowhead in Waleska, Ga. He enjoyed his family, golf and being actively involved in the Methodist Church during his many years there. In 2005, he and Lois moved to Gainesville to be closer to family.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Jean Willers; and sons, Robert, John and Steve. In addition, survivors include nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., Gainesville First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Challenged Child, 2360 Murphy Blvd. SW, Gainesville, GA 30504.
