Wyatt Elwyn Joiner, age 88, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away at his residence on Nov. 24, 2013. Born in Atlanta, he attended North Fulton H.S., Presbyterian College and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. In college, he participated in the Navy V-12 program, Golden Glove boxing, and the ATO Fraternity. Wyatt, a World War II veteran, retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with the rank of captain after 30 years of service. He worked for Lockheed Martin Co. and retired as director of the Central Region in Dayton, Ohio, in 1988. He was elected to the Dayton Aviation Hall of Fame. In retirement, he enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and pursuing the elusive "key" to his golf swing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Ann Bennett, Gainesville; children, Robert, Cynthia, William, Thomas; and seven grandchildren. Memorial service to be held at Lanier Village Estates Chapel, 4000 Village View Drive, Gainesville, on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 2.
